KIVALINA, ALASKA - MARCH, 2021: In October of 2020, after about two years of construction, the 8.6 mile Kivalina road was completed. The road stretches from the villages airport to the location known as K-Hill. At the end of the road will be the location of the new Kivalina school where construction on the foundation has already begun.
Due to rising sea levels and coastal erosion caused by climate change. The village will need to relocate farther inland. The new road will also serve as a rout to a new townsite and as an evacuation rout for the existing village during harsh storms.
