KIVALINA, ALASKA - APRIL, 2021: A home facing the frozen coastline of the Chukchi Sea. Kivalina is located 80 miles above the arctic circle with a population of 375. For decades the village has been battling coastal erosion due to climate change and is expected to relocate in the coming years. In October of 2020, after two years of construction, the 8.6 mile Kivalina road was completed. The road stretches from the villages airport to the location known as K-Hill. At the end of the road will be the location of the new Kivalina school where construction on the foundation has begun. The new road will also serve as a rout to a new town site and as an evacuation rout for the existing village during harsh storms.
