Elizabeth Nayokpuk, wife of the late Iditarod legend Herbie Nayokpuk, in her home in Shishmaref, Alaska. Elizabeth was one of the original contributors to the 1951 Eskimo Cookbook, and still prepares traditional Native dishes today. On the day of our visit, Elizabeth was preparing a roast from caribou hunted by her son.
